Originally introduced in 2006 to commemorate the re-opening of the iconic Salons Patek Philippe, the reference 5565A draws inspiration from Patek Philippe’s rich history, namely reference 565, which was introduced on October 27th, 1938, and powered by iconic calibre 12-120 making it the first ‘waterproof’ watch by the brand. Apart from the Nautilus collection the use of stainless steel in classic contemporary Patek’s is rather rare and is only reserved for special occasions such as charitable donations or to celebrate a meaningful milestone, making this 300 piece limited edition all the more special. 

Case & Dial

This reference is characterised by a two-piece case, consisting of a combined caseband and bezel, and a screw-down case back which allows the watch to be water-resistant. The brushed screw-down case back is also decorated with an engraving “Patek Philippe Geneve 1839 – 1982 – 2006”, marking three historically important dates within the history of Patek Philippe: the founding of the company, the original opening of the Geneva Salon, and the Salons Patek Philippe reopening. The case measures a modest 36 mm paying homage to reference 565. The two-tone silver dial is reminiscent of sector dials from the 1930s, the satin finished small seconds is found at 6 o’clock, the stark contrast of the contemporary luminous baton hands offers a sense of modernity. The applied solid gold numerals are crafted from solid gold and treated in black nickel for exceptional legibility.

Movement

Keeping the essence of a tribute, the reference 5565 is fitted with a manually wound movement, calibre 215 PS which was created at the end of the 1970s. The movement consists of 18 jewels, 130 parts, and boasts a power reserve of 45 hours. The movement is finished to a high standard, displaying bevelling and the illustrious Côtes de Genève, the movement also bears the highly respected  Poinçon de Genève.

The present watch is preserved in immaculate condition and is accompanied by both its inner and outer boxes, Patek Philippe Certificate, commemorative medal, product literature, attestation, leather wallet, and original catalogue.
